A war room in a library

The trivia game where knowing the answer is only half the battle.

Every move on the board is a question. Get it right and your troops advance; get it wrong and your opponent strikes back. Free, in your browser, about eight minutes a match.

Mondays and Thursdays 20:00 Zagreb time – Duel Night, come and prove yourself.

How a match works

Three troops, one base, and a question for every move

  1. 1

    Pick your move

Choose a troop and a hex. Archers shoot from two hexes away, cavalry covers three in one move, and the scholar always sees one wrong answer fewer.

  2. 2

    Answer to act

Every move and every attack is a question from that hex’s category. Answer right and your troops advance. Answer wrong and they hold still.

  3. 3

    Win the battle

In a fight, both players answer. Knock out all three enemy troops or bring down their base to take the match.

Know your ground

Every hex is a category

Pick the ground you know best, and push your opponent onto ground they don’t.

  • Art painting to theatre
  • Geography maps, capitals, flags
  • History Rome to the present
  • Entertainment film, TV, music
  • Science from atoms to planets
  • Sport records and legends

Questions that fit you

Questions that adapt to you. Not the other way around.

Every question has a difficulty that shifts with every answer players give, and the game keeps track of how strong you are in each of the six categories. So it picks questions at your level, not too easy and not impossible. In a battle it picks for both players. The more you play, the better the fit.

  1. 1

    You answer

Every move and every attack asks a question from that hex’s category.

  2. 2

    The question learns

Each answer, from every player, moves that question’s difficulty up or down. Your level in that category moves too.

  3. 3

    The next one fits

The game picks the next question near your level in that category. In a battle, near both players’ levels.

Questions

Before your first battle

Is Trivia Troops free?

Yes. The whole game is free to play in your browser.

What do I need to play?

A browser on your phone, tablet or computer. Open app.triviatroops.com and sign in. Apps for iOS and Android come later.

How long does a match take?

About eight minutes on average. Most matches last between five and ten.

Will the questions be too hard for me?

Not for long. The game tracks how strong you are in each of the six categories and picks questions near your level. It takes a few matches to get to know you, and after that the fit keeps getting better.

When can I play online?

Any time. Online play is open all week, and you can play a friend or the Professor bot whenever you like. Duel Night, when we all play together, is Monday and Thursday from 20:00 to 22:00 Zagreb time, and newsletter subscribers hear about each one first.

Which languages can I play in?

English and Croatian. The questions and the whole interface are in both.
